THE COURTNEYS [Cancelled]

Please note this is an 18+ event

Band on the Wall presents

The Courtneys drift back to the sound of the early ’90s, drawing from strong influences including Teenage Fanclub, Pavement, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, and The Clean. Courtney Loove’s dreamy guitar riffs add a timeless powerpop element to the punk backbone formed by Sydney Koke’s driving basslines, while drummer/lead singer Jen Twynn Payne delivers heartfelt lyrics with a powerful vocal style. These components come together through a passionate collaborative songwriting process to deliver a special blend of fuzzy “artisanal grunge”.

The first eponymous Courtneys album came out in 2013 on small independent label, Hockey Dad Records, based in the band’s hometown of Vancouver, BC, Canada. They have since worked with a number of independent labels including Conquest of Noise (Australia), Waterslide Records (Japan), Burger Records, and Gnar tapes (USA).

Long influenced by legendary label Flying Nun Records, the group are honoured to now be included on the roster. They released their sophomore album “II” in February 2017, to critical acclaim. A re-issue of the Courtneys’ first album took place at the end of 2017.

The Courtneys have released a number of singles and music videos (many self-produced) and toured and played festivals in Canada, The USA, The UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, including supporting tours with Tegan and Sara and Mac Demarco. In spring 2017 they completed a co-headlining North American tour with Oakland band Jay Som, followed by a month long tour of Europe and The UK, featuring a performance at Best Kept Secret Festival in the Netherlands. In summer 2017 they played a number of festivals including Dawson City Music Festival, Sappyfest, and Ponderosa Music festival, and then headed to Australia and New Zealand where they headlined a show at Flying Out Festival. In October 2017 they toured North America, including shows at Halifax Pop Explosion, supported by Seattle band Versing. In November 2017 they performed at M is for Montreal.

This is a standing show. A Band on the Wall Fundraiser.
