Sad Films – Exchange Pleasantries EP Launch w/ Candlemice

Please note this is an 18+ Event

sad films is the alter-ego of Salfordian singer-songwriter Dan Lucas. An open-secret superhero of sorts, borne out of a desire to shed the handcuffs of hibernation that modern life can have on one’s creative impulses.

Inspired by the genre spanning artistry of R.E.M., David Bowie and Father John Misty alongside the story-telling of John Prine, Leonard Cohen and Alex Cameron, sad films weaves a tapestry of vivid imagery from a life television raised, bringing you unapologetically into their world with playful lyrics dressed in high quality melodic fabric.

In the short time sad films has been active, he and his band have played sold-out shows with popular Manchester based band, Manilla Times, as well as supporting international artists AINAKANNA, who recently travelled from Japan for their Autumn 2023 UK tour.

Following on from two successful singles, ‘Plugged In’ and ‘Dog Day’, sad films returns with his first full length EP, ‘Exchange Pleasantries’ and a special live show accompanied by his full band at The Castle Hotel.

Exploring themes such as falling in love whilst time travelling, putting off life admin to steal antiques and wondering what it’s like to be Bill Murray filming a commercial in Japan, the five track EP is set for release in July 2024 and is preceded by lead single ‘Past Tense’.

So, dive in, stay hydrated & keep your hands inside the vehicle at all times…
