Hailing from North London, Oscar Browne is the twenty-five-year young multi-instrumentalist-come singer-songwriter, who’s spellbinding style of meticulous alt-folk, is a contemporary force of seminal nature. Building a world out of pine trees and finger-picked-mortar, and nesting warmly within the branches of Stephen Fretwell, Nick Mulvey, and John Martyn, Oscar Browne’s roots lie in the foundational intricacy of goldenage songwriting. A founding member of the London based folk-collective
Broadside Hacks (amongst other banded-ventures), Oscar Browne’s creative-capability is a limitless array of captivating delights; a timeless sense of musical-magnitude which’ll only keep growing with fine
prowess, as Browne continues to cut his teeth as a beguiling ‘must-see’ artist with a widely regarded live-show.
Having spent the last few years fine tuning his craft right down to the six stringed bone, Browne’s debut single ‘Never Quite Right’, was released in June 2022 via Brace Yourself Records. A beautiful blend of nostalgia, drum-machines, and shimmering melancholy, ‘Never Quite Right’ was unsurprisingly, met with critical acclaim; with the likes of So Young Magazine heralding it “a work of craftsmanship, showcasing all of Oscar Browne’s collaborative and independent abilities”, Clash Magazine stating it an “Ethereal delight”, and garnering Browne feature plays from Tom Ravenscroft (BBC 6 Music), and BBC Introducing London.
As the leaves turn from effervescent, to a lo-fi golden-hue, and endless days fall into slumberous nights, we seek to turn inside, for everlasting comfort. With a plethora of material tucked gently in the pocket of his characteristic puffa jacket, there’s no telling where Browne will venture next. But rest assured, wherever the solid air may take him, it’ll be a splendid adventure worth joining.
