A cracking line up for April’s Nailed It (which is on the second Sunday of the month, just to keep you on your toes).

Gideon Conn:
After finishing a degree in sculpture at MMU, Gideon decided to become a builder, but nipped that in the bud after 8 months because it was very hard work. That was the point when he decided to be a full time artist and musician. He became a feature on the Manchester indie folk scene and was known for doing drawings at gigs and giving them to bands as a souvenirs.

Known for effortlessly blending acoustic folk and hip hop, Gideon has a unique performance style which make audiences very happy.

Dec ’07 was the release date of Gideon’s first single ‘I want you around’ a 10″ vinyl released on Get Cape Wear Cape Fly’s label Mannequin Records. It was Xfm playlisted, and breakfast single of the week on Shaun Keaveney’s 6 music show. This was followed by a BBC Maida Vale session with Huw Stephens.

UK Support tours with Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip and Jason Mraz followed in ’08 along with appearances at Glastonbury, Bestival, Latitude and several other festivals. ‘Trademark’ featured on Rob Da Bank’s Bestival A-Z compilation.

’09 – runner up in red stripe music competition (Ben Howard won), UK tour with folk pop group 6 Day Riot, also documentary ‘Hitting Home -Good Luck Gideon’ aired on Manchester’s Channel M. Acoustic single ‘Londonderry’

released on newly formed independent label ‘New Bop Sounds’ which became the title of Gideon’s debut full album released Sept ’10.

The second album ‘Take It all’ (released June 2012 on Tantrum Records), shows Gideon at the height of his song crafting powers. The record opens with lead single Fall Under Tokyo, a pumping radio tune with pure pop beats, soaring synths and Gideon’s mellow-sweet vocal. The Record features a vocal track from Josephine on Colours, a beautiful classic sounding soul ballad.

2013 has brought a UK tour with alternative Brighton based act, Bunty (Resonators). and plans are afoot for a joint October tour and 12″ vinyl release called ‘Highlights and Perceptions’ with independent Scottish singer Donna Macioca.

2015 saw the release of his 3rd studio album ‘Hiphop Original’ , released by London soul/jazz label Wah Wah 45s

Granfalloon: Granfalloon is the project of Manchester based artist Richard Lomax. Distilling elements of lo-fi, folk and psych and the mix of electronics and delicate acoustics, Lomax has created compelling results.

Currently releasing debut album ‘Down There For Dancing’ track-by-track on a monthly basis to allow each song to be honed to beautiful imperfection.

Jon Coley: Jon plays an eclectic mix of Blues, soul and folk, mixed with fresh original songwriting, and is making a name for himself for his unique guitar playing, influenced by performers such as Nick Drake, John Mayer, Bert Jansch, Wizz Jones and John Martyn, and for his passionate vocal performances, and has become a legendary figure in his present home of Chester, his family’s native Liverpool, where his grandfather worked to book bands for the Cavern Club alongside Bobby Wooler and owner Ray McFall, and for his regular performances at Manchester’s Whiskey Jar.
Jonathan’s guitar playing has been deemed as “subtly sublime with a natural rhythm and effortless melody” with “a voice with charm and presence to match”.
In the last few years Jon has been handpicked to play alongside some of his biggest musical influences, from supporting Ralph McTell at the Echo Arena, through to opening for great figures of the English folk and acoustic scene such as Michael Chapman, Nick Harper, Jon Gomm, Mike Dawes, impromptu jams with John Renbourn and Jerron ‘Blind Boy’ Paxton, as well as rising stars like ‘Into the Ark’, Billy Lockett, Gilmore and Roberts, Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar, The Carrivick Sisters,
His first full studio recording, Raincloud Man, was released on February 17th, 2016 through Stage:Life, alongside an album of acoustic tracks called ‘The Pluto Sessions, and his latest effort ‘Live at the Whiskey Jar, will be released April 22nd 2017. His first new singles were released in the early weeks of 2018, in advance of a studio album due for release later in the year.
