Broadside Hacks present Milkweed w/ Brown Wimpenny

Please note this is an 18+ event
Since releasing teasing single ‘My Father’s Sheep Is Dead’ last month via established tastemaking compilation Slow Dance ‘23, Milkweed have garnered praise from across the press landscape. From underground champions The Quietus, The Guardian, to folk-specialists Tradfolk and KLOF and indie-cornerstones So Young, Rough Trade, Hard of Hearing and The Most Radicalist – listeners have been beguiled by Milkweed’s confounding sound-collage of cut-up samples, looping guitars, fossilised percussion and captivating vocals. Their sound, dubbed by the duo themselves as ‘Slacker Trad’, has drawn descriptions ranging to experimental hip-hop, hauntology, folk and electronica, in an attempt to place its distinct idiosyncrasies.
The duo’s third work in as many years, Folklore 1979 (2024) takes its lyrics exclusively from an academic journal published by the Folklore Society and renders it into a piece of music that blurs the lines between what is found and what is created. Across a beguiling 11 minutes, Milkweed unspool like a single disjointed dream narrative, taking in ritual, extinction, migration, esoteric cosmogony and Arthurian legend.
