Mathew J Hall released his debut album ‘Unquiet Mind’ on 30 November 2018.
The album is a bold fusion of dark ballads and atmospheric soundscapes, revealing an honest and powerful sense of yearning at its core.
It was whilst dealing with a newly diagnosed chronic illness that Mathew found solace through his songwriting; capturing his feelings to create emotionally engaging songs.
“I started writing down thoughts, ideas which eventually became songs whilst going through the most up and down period of my life.”
“The record takes you on a journey. It is honest, a little too honest for some. I wanted to create something not just for myself, but for others to relate to in their own lives.”
Based in Sheffield, Mathew has been a part of a number of previous bands in the city, before deciding he needed true ownership of his most personal project.
The album was produced by Dave Sanderson (Reverend and the Makers/65 Days of Static) and is released through Y.L.A Recordings.
“For me, it is an album in the spirit of all great albums. Focusing on love, life and hurt, and approaching it in the manner that maybe a girl would by being brave to talk about how you feel.”
Influences include Sharon Van Etten, Mazzy Star and Lykki Li amongst others.
It was recorded over a 12 month period at a range of locations, including Giant Wafer studios in Wales, Tesla Studios in Sheffield, Sheffield’s legendary and now closed 2Fly studios, and even his own home, such was the devotion to the project.
