Wedding return with debut LP Mania Whatever on Stockholm label Maternal Voice, the follow-up to 2015’s debut EP – acclaimed by Dummy, HERO, La Blogotheque and The Line of Best Fit.
The project of songwriter Thomas Craig, the band relocated from their birthplace of Berlin to the city of Manchester shortly before writing began. Craig joined by Rory Cook, Rich James, Joey Frances and An-Tim Nguyen took the job of putting a year’s worth of material to tape themselves amidst a period of testing highs and lows.
The recording process was interrupted by a month-long studio flea infestation and brought to a financial halt when Craig received a bill for over-allocation of welfare payments. The successive hurdles and general feeling of discontent in 2016 Britain provided Wedding with adequate reason to dive deeper into their made-up world of Mania Whatever.
With a backstory befitting of a Manchester backdrop the record was made through the lens of melancholic pop hooks, luscious layers of acoustics and harmony juxtaposed with shimmering, feedbacking guitar.
Influences such as Spacemen 3, Big Star and Phil Spector’s grandiose production were benchmarks in the group’s vision for a melancholy brand of pop on Mania Whatever.
Mania Whatever is out 23 March on Maternal Voice.
