Hey! Manchester presents Robocobra Quartet

Please note this is an 18+ event

Mining influence from jazz, hardcore punk and contemporary classical music, Robocobra Quartet sound like little else.

With an expanding, contracting and ever-changing line-up, the group began performing live in 2014 after studying at the Sonic Arts Research Centre in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Since then, their no-holds-barred approach – centred on a howling drummer-vocalist and offset by menacing saxophones – has garnered the group a reputation as a must-see live act.

Robocobra Quartet’s brew of spoken vocals, effects-laden bass and raw improvisation has taken them to festivals such as Electric Picnic and Brilliant Corners Jazz Festival, supporting the release of a limited run lathe-cut 7″ on Smalltown America Records.

Bolstered by support from BBC 6 Music and the PRS Foundation, 2016 has seen the band perform throughout the UK, Ireland and Europe while conducting recording sessions in studios and concert halls around Belfast. This culminates in the release of a 12-inch LP entitled Music For All Occasions, out 18 November 2016.

Support comes from Bas Jan. Bass, violin drums and singing. Their songs to date are written by Serafina Steer and indeed, they were going to be a new serafina steer album until Sarah and Jenny’s full powers triangulated the whole collaboration and BAS JAN was born.

Completing this triple bill are Lunch. Lunch traverses the immediacy of the present while pointing a telescope back to 50’s New York. The music accompanies the poetry of Frank O’Hara with dream.
